"Lights Up: A Musical Theatre Intensive"

Ages: 5th - 12th grade

Instructor: Omar Sosa

Location: 419 N. Spruce St, 1st Floor

During this week-long intensive, you child/teen will have the opportunity to learn everything it takes to put on a musical theatre production. From vocal work and choreography to character work and ensemble work, young actors will be immersed into the wonderful world of song and dance. At the end of the week, they will stage their own musical theatre production, including all the classic styles that we hold dear. This is a fun, unique and rewarding way to spend spring break!

"Theatre: Start to Finish!"

Spring: March 31 - May 19, 2020 (no class on April 14)

Instructor: Brandon Lloyd Hicks
419 N. Spruce St, 2nd Floor

In this class, we will learn the entire process of getting a play onto the stage. We’ll travel from the idea phase all the way to writing our own scripts and workshopping our plans! Each week we will expand our project, until the final class where we'll perform our creation for a real audience! (That’s you, family and friends!)

"Acting with Nouns"

Spring: March 31 - May 19, 2020 (no class April 14)

Instructor: Kay Smitherman

Location: 419 N. Spruce St, 1st Floor

A child’s world is full of things. Naming them, giving them value, and using them as props to enhance or create a scene opens a world of possibilities. Although prior attendance is not necessary for this class, we will build on last session’s language with Ruth Heller’s books as we build confidence in speaking and performing in front of others. Our final class will end with a play for family and friends created from students' imaginative use of nouns.

Omar Sosa

Omar Sosa is a former opera student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He works at Kaleideum as a teaching artist and enjoys working with performers of all ages. Omar has worked with Peppercorn Theatre, W-S Theatre Alliance, LTWS, Paramount Stage, Stained Glass Playhouse, and others. Omar's knowledge of musical theatre performance, paired with his passion for collaboration with rising actors, will be a perfect mix for a great intensive! He is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with young students and other artists.

Brandon Lloyd Hicks

This former Disneyland entertainer has over 15 years of experience working with children and adults on stage as an actor and director. His work has taken him across the country and back again, and he is ready to coach your young superstar to the next level! Brandon also owns his own Murder Mystery event service, Mystery Men Productions. Join him in a journey of self discovery on the road to Broadway Magic!

Kay Smitherman

Having grown up spending summers at Shakespeare in the Park in Louisville, KY, Kay continues to share her love of iambic pentameter with her classes and camps at The Little Theatre. She received her BFA in Acting from Virginia Commonwealth University. While directing at College of the Desert in CA, an earthquake convinced her family to move back east, where Kay stumbled into Montessori education and has not looked back.

Attendance and Cancellation Policy: Regular attendance and participation are strongly encouraged. No make-up classes or reductions in fees will be provided for students who miss class. The Little Theatre's class sessions follow the WS/FCS public school calendar. If school is closed due to inclement weather, acting classes will be canceled and an extra class will be added at the end of the session. If The Little Theatre cancels a class for any other reason, caregivers/attendees will be alerted via email, and a make-up class will be added to the end of the session.

Refund policy: In the event that The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem cancels a session, a full refund of tuition will be made. If a student withdraws from a class before the session begins or within the first week, a full credit can be applied to any class or camp occurring within the next year. Otherwise, partial refunds (less a $50 administrative fee) can be given if written or email notice of withdrawal is received prior to the first class of a session. Once the session begins, tuition is non-refundable.
