SHREK THE MUSICAL JR.

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Come Make a Scene with us! Campers will explore the parts of a scene; the characters, the set, the costumes and the story. They will learn basic stage direction and theatre skills while coming up with their own Scene to perform.
This is story telling with the actions of on stage performance!
There will be a final showcase of their Scene at the end of the week.

MAKE A SCENE
July 15-July 19, 2024

Come Make a Scene with us! Campers will explore the parts of a scene; the characters, the set, the costumes and the story. They will learn stage direction and theatre skills while coming up with their own Scene to perform.
This is story telling with the actions of on stage performance!
There will be a final showcase of their Scene at the end of the week.

CREATING THE CHARACTER
July 15-July 19, 2024

Lets Create a Character. We can be a Hero, or a Villain, a Monster, a Fairy tale creature. We can be a fictional character or a real person. In theatre we get to explore all of these characters. Through movement, expression and dress up campers will create their very own Character.
There will be a Character Showcase at the end of the week.

This camp for is everyone who wants to get up and move!
Movement can express feelings, tell a story, and it's a lot of fun. in this camp campers will explore different creative movements going beyond dance to explore their creative side and how they want to express themselves.
There will be a showcase on the final day of the week.

CREATING THE CHARACTER
July 22-July 26, 2024

Creating a Character is the most fundamental part of acting. Campers will explore how their voice, body and facial expressions change a character. They will explore how motivation and backstory determine how a character behaves in a scene. In this camp our actors will expand their acting skills, getting them ready for middle and high school audition season!

It's story time!
This time the campers are the story tellers. Campers will explore how their voice and body movement can help tell a story. We will explore different kinds of story telling including traditional, puppets, and improvisational.

Come tell a story!
Theatre is story telling. So is a comedian's routine, a song, poetry, and even that dreaded history paper. In this camp campers will explore the different ways, places and styles of story telling.
Join us, because we have a story for you!
There will be a story telling show case on the final day of class.

From jokes to funny stories we will explore everything that makes us laugh.
Campers will explore how to tell a joke, what faces are the funniest and how it all goes together to create a fun, creative and laugh out loud story.
A Hilarious Showcase will be at the end of the week.

INTRODUCTION TO IMPROV

Ready to up your theatre experience? Improvisation is not only fun and funny it is a great skill on and off stage. This class will help with public speaking, confidence and acting. And we'll have a lot of laughs along the way!
There will be a showcase on the final day of class.

DIRECTORS
Kellie Harris
Kellie Harris is a theatre arts educator in WSFCS. She is excited to get involved in community theatre here in Winston Salem after having moved from Raleigh with her family in 2019. Back in the capital city, Kellie directed many children's productions at Arts Together and in magnet elementary schools. She worked with older students at Raleigh Little Theatre, in Pieces of Gold, and in the WCPSS production of Les Miserables. One of her favorite musical memories is when her father was invited onto a Broadway stage as an extra in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She is excited to "keep on rockin' in the free world" this summer with The Little Theatre of Winston Salem.
Eppie Jo Miller
Eppie Jo Miller will be returning to The Little Theatre of Winston Salem's team as a Camp Director. She is a recent graduate of UNCG with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts Administration and works with Shared Radiance Performing Arts Company leading their teen outreach program. Most recently, Eppie Jo directed Macbeth through a teen Shakespeare program at the Stephen D. Hyers theater in downtown Greensboro (Creative Greensboro). Her previous production credits include Technical Director for The Tempest (Shared Radiance), and Stage Manager for The Underpants (The Little Theatre of Winston Salem).
Outside of theatre, Eppie Jo also runs a photography and video production company, Zinnia Garden Productions. Eppie Jo strives to spread the enriching and inspirational power of the arts through her work in film, photography, and nonprofit theatre and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to work directly with young people to nurture their skills within the arts.
Emily Ennis
Emily Ennis is a soprano and actress based in Greensboro. She is so excited to join the team at The Little Theatre of Winston Salem! Emily holds a Master’s Degree in Opera from the Longy School of Music and a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice from the University of Miami. She began teaching voice as a requirement for her Master’s degree, and continued to work as a substitute teacher and an in-home preschool teacher during the pandemic. She currently works as a music teacher for infants-5 year olds with Kidstunes Music & Movement, and as an elementary drama teacher with Drama Kids of the Triad. An avid performer, Emily has most recently been onstage in local and regional theatrical productions with Shared Radiance, Camel City Playhouse, Theatre Guild of Rockingham County, Durham Savoyards, Kernersville Little Theatre, and Raleigh Little Theatre. Emily is so excited to meet the next generation of young thespians, to get creative, and to have fun exploring the wide world of theatre!
Thurston Williams
Thurston Williams is a UNC Charlotte, Theatre Performance Alumni. Thurston's first professional acting experience comes from Ensemble Stage in Banner Elk, where he stared in "The Fisherman and His Wife" and "The Princess and the Pea" as a part of their Summer Children's Theatre Shows. Thurston has had the privilege of performing for Young Audiences across the United States in "Holidays Around the World" and "Stone Soup" with Bright Star Touring Childrens Theatre. Other notable credits include working with Community Theatre of Greensboro during their Theatre Summer Camp Classes and Production Camp for Aladdin Jr. He also loves Shakespeare and has been a part of several shows with Shared Radiance Performing Arts Company. When not on stage Thurston enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, family and friends.
CAMP POLICIES
GENERAL
Each of our summer camps focus on enabling campers to experience the fun, excitement, and challenge of performing live theatre while developing their own talents, strengths and skills. The Little Theatre accepts all children, regardless of their level of ability or experience. Campers will learn stage blocking, lines and music (as applicable), as well as a variety of theatre elements, including character development, voice and diction, costumes, stage movement, and production etiquette.
Before Care will Run 8:30am-9:30am; After Care will run 4:30pm-5:30pm.
Campers can purchase a t-shirt during online registration for $15.

PAYMENT AND REFUND POLICY
Tuition must be paid in full at least one weeks prior to the start of camp for your child to attend. In the event that The Little Theatre cancels a camp, a full tuition refund will be made. If a student withdraws from camp up to two weeks prior to the camp start date, they will receive a 50% refund; no refunds will be made after that.
Needs based scholarships are available on a first come-first served basis.
